There is a very alarming trend on which I believe I must comment. If you look around you, in pop culture, you'll see that darkness is widely sought after. Things that are marketed or presented as dark and morbid, are the ones which receive wide public acceptance. The following is just a sample of some of the insanely popular presentations that our society seems to crave.
1. The Dark Knight - We've had Batman movies before, but never this dark, never this morbid and never this sadistic.

This movie was insanely popular and broke records at the box office. It is presently being hailed as a masterpiece.

2. Rihanna - This "good girl gone bad" has wasted no time in transforming her sweet school-girl image to one that is gothic, dark and bordering that of a witch.

Her popularity has greatly surged since the darkening of her image.

3. Spiderman 3 - This is another insanely popular movie which choose to depict a darker atmosphere than that of the original source material.

This film also broke box office records with it's exploration of Peter Parker's dark side and the introduction of Venom.

There was a time when Super Hero Movies were highly jovial and entertaining for all ages. That has now changed drastically, with movies such as Iron Man, X-Men 3 and Ghost Rider, all of which were dark, with the later being sadistic.

What does it say about us a people, us as a race, when we embrace such material. Even television shows had become darker. Long gone are the days of the whole family enjoying MacGyver. Now, it's dark shows like "Lost", "Heroes", "24" and "Prison Break".
Are these signs of the times? Are these the last days? Where is mankind headed when we idolize that which is morbid, that which is disturbing, that which is dark, whether it be music, movies, television or anything else?
Ponder on that.
